New Album : As I Lay Dying

The band As I Lay Dying's newest album since An Ocean Between Us, The Powerless Rise falls short of its predecessor. With, in my opinion, only three or four enjoyable tracks, doesn't match Ocean's complete album. As a matter of fact, An Ocean Between Us is one of the few albums I put on repeat and can enjoy as a whole. Powerless only has a few enjoyable songs. I hope this is just a transition for the band, and this album will be far outdone by their next.

In other news, keep an eye out for their tour dates. They've been posting some new ones lately.

Bullet for My Valentine : Fever

A previous, though un-reviewed, and favorite band of mine, Bullet for My Valentine has recently released a new album. Well, recently is a little bit of an exaggeration, but nonetheless - new. However, I was not terribly pleased. I suppose I had my expectations a little high. I wish this album had been released in between Scream Aim Fire and The Poison, rather than most recently. Nevertheless, check it out if you're a fan or just starting out on Bullet.

New Release : Bring Me the Horizon

There Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret

Alas, a new album from a previously posted band! Obviously, their fans are very excited (including me). It is set to be released on October 4, 2010 in the United Kingdom and majority of Europe and October 5, 2010 in the United States. Let's hang in there guys - just a few more days, at least. I'll be posting a review following its release.

Miss May I

Yay, new band! Alright, so these guys are yet another metalcore band I've been enjoying. The album pictured above, Apologies are for the Weak, is one of my new favorites. The music is fast and heavy, the singing is powerful, and the lyrics are tight. As a matter of fact, there are few albums I can listen to the entire thing. Without a doubt, this is one of those albums. Check the guys out!

Rising Artist : A Fight At Daybreak

A Fight At Daybreak MySpace!

When you talk about up and coming bands and rising stars, A Fight At Daybreak seems to fit the bill. With their first "real" shows and 2009 and a breakout performance at Las Vegas, Nevada's Extreme Thing, this band is well on their way to metal fame. Vicious breakdowns, tight vocals, and a unique look make these guys a must hear.

Artist Spotlight : Bring Me the Horizon

Bring Me the Horizon Myspace!

If I'm not mistaken, this would be our first British band to make the posts. This Metalcore band is from Yorkshire, England, and formed in 2004. Currently working on their third studio album, the band has been through some hard times and line up changes to get where they are. No less, they have an album coming out in roughly Summer 2010.

Associated Bands : Pierce the Veil, I Killed the Prom Queen, Suicide Silence.

Artist Spotlight : Protest The Hero

Protest The Hero Myspace!

Protest The Hero is a Canadian "Mathcore" band (essentially Metalcore with odd rhythms and such) working on a new album for 2010. In an interview with one of the guitarists, (Luke Hoskin) he actually complained that some of the guitar leads he writes are almost too difficult for him to play. Few bands reach such a level of technical guitar as these guys do, but their vocals, rhythms, and overall sound do their best to keep up.

Associated Bands : Chiodos, Bullet for My Valentine, Between the Buried and Me.

Artist Spotlight : A Day To Remember

A Day To Remember MySpace!

Though perhaps not the most tradationally "metal" of the bands thus far, A Day To Remember maintains a tough and fast sound with solid breakdowns and vocals. Most interesting to me is the combination of traditionally Metal guitar work and screaming mixed with more punk/alternative singing. Perhaps not hard enough for some, based on the guitar, screaming, and overall anti-establishment feel, A Day To Remember is pretty awesome.

Associated Bands : Atreyu, The Devil Wears Prada, Suicide Silence.

Artist Spotlight : Parkway Drive

Parkway Drive Myspace!

With a new album coming out later this year, Parkway Drive is the youngest band on the list so far. Formed in 2003, this Australian Metalcore band is looking forward to Warped Tour this year and intends to play at every stop. The music is fast and heavy, and the guitars are all tuned down to Drop B, and for guitarists, that's pretty low. Thus, the guitar is heavy, fast, and overall - metal. So, check 'em out!

Artist Spotlight : As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying Myspace!

Another of my personal favorites, As I Lay Dying is a Metalcore band from San Diego founded in 2000. With their fifth album coming out in a little over a month, As I Lay Dying has a mighty future in front of them. The band focuses on a mixture of screaming, singing, and intense breakdowns to create a pretty interesting sound.

Associated Bands : Trivium, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains

Artist Spotlight : August Burns Red

Our first spotlight will focus on August Burns Red, a Hardcore band from Pennsylvania. The band began in 2002 and released their first album in 2004. Famous for epic breakdowns, mean guitar riffs, and intense vocals, the band even calls upon their Christian faith for some of their music.

Associated Bands : Parkway Drive, As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon.
